A 1 : Yes, Meditation can really help you. Meditation can teach you to compartmentalise your Life. You as Team Leader, you as a Partner, you as a Father and You ...aka Self.
Meditation teaches us to live in the present moment and be mindful of the everyday little gems we often miss through stress, anxiety and overwhelm. A regular Meditation practice will lead to improved focus, mental clarity, enhanced emotional regulation and increased self awareness and reflection. It can develop a deeper understanding of Self, leading to greater calmness, reduced anxiety and stress which will lead you to experience a more productive, meaningful Life in the different roles of your Life.
Q 2 : How does Meditation help with Physical & Psychological Health overall ?
A 2 : A regular Meditation practice has been scientifically proven to be extremely effective in reducing stress and anxiety, by reducing harmful, long term high levels of Cortisol and Adrenalin (the stress hormones) in the body. Meditation has also been proven to lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain, improve sleep, strengthen the immune system and calm the Mind and Body by increasing the levels of healing and calming hormones, Oxytocin, Dopamine, Seratonin and endorphins. Meditation offers the Mind & Body the opportunity to build resilience, to help heal from grief, physical pain, stress and anxiety. To heal, rejuvenate and transform your Life.
The British Heart Foundation mentions on their website of how practicing a Mantra Meditation for 15 minutes daily helped patients with coronary heart disease. A 5 year study showed it reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke or death by 48 per cent. Outstanding !
Q 3 : I am a working Mum, all I seem to do is shout at my kids. I love them so much but don"t seem to have the time or energy to demonstrate that. Can Meditation really help me ?
A 3 : Absolutely yes ! Meditation improves focus and energy levels. Both of these we need in abundance as a working Parent. When we are stressed we often lack focus and energy and are not operating from optimum capacity. By training our thinking, I say thinking because we cannot control our thoughts but we can control our thinking around our thoughts. When we can do this we then operate from our full capacity. What does this actually mean ?
Have you ever found yourself trying to multi task. ie; preparing a meal, running the bath for the kids, answering a text message whilst the kids are running around making lots of noise just like kids do ? then the food has burnt, the bath over flowed your text message doesn't make sense, and you end up losing it ? Yes I am sure, I have also been there. It doesn't make you a bad parent, it means you are a very stressed parent trying to do your best.
There is a different and better way ! Meditation teaches you to enhance your productivity, focus and ability to get the most out of your everyday Life, leading to increased and improved performance. Sounds all very corporate but you are the CEO of your family !
Many World Leaders, Olympians, CEO's use Meditation as a tool to perform at optimum levels. When you are able to calm and regulate your emotions you will also find you become a more understanding, effective and compassionate leader, CEO, parent, partner, friend and work colleague.
Q 5 : How long will it take to feel the benefit of Meditation?
A 5 : Relaxation and enhanced focus can be felt immediately. More profound benefits like emotional regulation, inner healing, increased compassion and self awareness can develop gradually over some weeks or a few months of consistent daily practice.
Q 6 : How long should I Meditate for and when ?
A 6 : For beginners starting with 4/5 minutes daily is ideal. You will soon want to increase this when you experience the feelings and overall benefits of increased calmness, inner space for healing physical and psychological pain, inner peace and eventually gratitude and self compassion.
Meditation can be practiced anytime, anywhere. It is about practicing Meditation daily until it becomes a normal daily routine in your Life, just like brushing your teeth. Experiment, so you find out what times best suit your lifestyle. Once you establish a regular habit, you will soon notice the difference in your day if you miss a practice !
Once you learn to Meditate, you will not need me, but I am always here for you if you want to take your Meditation to the next level.
